Short Term and Medium Term NDIS Accommodation In Western and South Sydney

In times of unexpected disruptions or life-altering circumstances, access to safe and supportive lodging is crucial for NDIS participants. You may encounter abrupt changes in your situation, face crises, experience a severe illness leading to hospitalisation or find that your caregiver is temporarily unable to provide care. Short Term Accommodation (STA) and Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) can be the solutions you need, and you can access them through registered NDIS providers.

At Me & You Carers, we provide temporary housing options for individuals with disabilities. Under the NDIS, we provide alternative lodging options in the form of STA and MTA. They allow you to remain connected to your communities instead of enduring prolonged hospital stays or prematurely transitioning to aged care facilities.

Short Term Accommodation under the NDIS

STA, which stands for Short Term Accommodation, under the NDIS is a category housing for NDIS participants. It provides temporary supported lodging for a duration of two to six weeks and is accessible through the Core funding in your NDIS plan. It replaces what was previously referred to as ‘respite’. While this transition might initially appear somewhat perplexing, it’s important to understand that funding for respite remains available to participants and their caregivers, now provided under the label ‘Short Term Accommodation and Assistance.’

Short Term Accommodation under the NDIS provides individuals with disabilities an opportunity to enjoy time away from their family home. It fosters greater independence and the chance to forge new friendships and acquire additional skills, all while having their disability support requirements met. Short Term Accommodation holds numerous advantages for various situations.

Who is eligible to utilise Short Term Accommodation with the NDIS?

Qualified NDIS beneficiaries have access to Short Term Accommodation for various purposes, including:

  1. Addressing changes in their circumstances or crisis situations that pose a risk of homelessness or premature placement in an aged care facility.
  2. Receiving capacity-building and/or independent living support.
  3. Providing respite for caregivers, especially if the caregiver has been hospitalised or if support staff are on leave.
  4. Enjoying a change of scenery for a holiday.
  5. Waiting for home modifications to be completed.
  6. Recovering from an illness.

Medium Term Accommodation under the NDIS

Medium Term Accommodation under the NDIS, commonly referred to as MTA, pertains to transitional housing designed for NDIS participants who are in the process of transitioning to a more permanent residence. Eligible participants can access funding for Medium Term Accommodation through an NDIS provider, which covers a duration of up to 90 days. This support is essential to prevent individuals with disabilities from being compelled to enter an aged care facility or endure extended hospital stays unnecessarily.

MTA is a suitable service to explore when you are transitioning from institutional care, anticipating the finalisation of home modifications, awaiting an available space or experiencing challenges with your current living situation.

Who is eligible to utilise Medium Term Accommodation under the NDIS?

MTA is accessible to eligible NDIS participants who require temporary transitional housing while they await the readiness or availability of their more permanent residence. This accommodation can be utilised in the following circumstances:

  1. As a transitional arrangement for younger individuals at risk of being admitted to, or who wish to leave, an aged care facility.
  2. For participants who are ready to leave the hospital but are awaiting the completion of home modifications, assistive technology installation or the delivery of support equipment to make their home suitable.
  3. For those eligible for Specialist Disability Accommodation but in need of a place to stay while awaiting a vacancy or the completion of a construction project.
